Florida service officers strive for excellence...
St. Petersburg DAV Office Supervisor Dan Anderson led an annual training session for 48 department service officers in Gainesville. Additionally, 204 chapter service officers were trained at the January midwinter conference. Service officers at the state and local levels are key to helping veterans where they live, being visible in the communities and making a meaningful difference.

Miller and Adjutant Andrew Grieb for a celebratory reveal of the new transportation van for the VA medical center in Denver. DAV departments and chapters, along with longtime partner Ford Motor Co., have purchased more than 3,000 vehicles that have been donated to VA medical centers nationwide since the Transportation Network program began in 1987 to ensure that injured or ill veterans are able to get to their medical appointments.
Outstanding veterans honored in Wisconsin...
DAV Department of Wisconsin honored two outstanding members at the 2017 department convention. Past Department Commanders Roger Dorman (left) and Clarence Stoel (right) both received the award named after Past National Commander Richard “Dick” Marbes (center left). Dorman and Stoel have remained involved in DAV activities in various roles throughout the years. Also pictured (center right) is then-Department of Wisconsin Commander John Polk.

DAV Department of Maryland members took the opportunity to raise awareness about the support and services the organization provides by manning a booth at Camden Yards, home to the Baltimore Orioles. At the game, (from left) National Service Officer Robert Cole, DAV Department of Maryland 3rd Junior Vice Commander Mark Mills, National Service Office Supervisor Lamarr Couser, National Service Officer Augustine Addo and DAV Department of Maryland 2nd Junior Vice Commander Theodore Garry were able to reach out to the local community and get veterans and their families the information and resources they needed.
Support for homeless and at-risk veterans...
National Commander Delphine Metcalf-Foster (second from right) alongside DAV Department of California volunteers, attended the Stand Down on the Delta 2017 in Antioch, Calif. The event is a biannual, four-day encampment for homeless or at-risk veterans to come together and receive support from their communities. Veterans receive housing support, addiction counseling, clothing, food, hygiene assistance and many other services meant to help veterans who have fallen on hard times.
